Hopefully you are able to read
this feeling the same way I am at this time of year. It is
time to celebrate success, and we have many of them to
share. We have made it through 2011, for all of its
challenges! Yea Us! We have moved forward with a wonderful
FCEC Board in place making important decisions. Thank you,
Board! And-most important for the content of this FCEC
Newsletter, we have many winners to celebrate for the
stellar presentation made during the FCEC Annual Conference
in Jacksonville this past October. Wonderful Winners all
around!
I want to start with personal
recognition of 2 relatively new FCEC Board members. With the
resignation of Dr. Joyce Harth as Student FCEC Advisor, we
needed this spot filled. Dr. Diana Valle-Reistra of
Miami International University did step up and accept this
position. With the resignation of Whitney Moores-Abdool as
FCEC Board Student Rep. Cheryl White-Lindsey (current
FCEC Board Multi-Cultural Chair) did temporarily fill this
position. Hannah Ehrli of UCF Orlando was asked, and
she did readily agree to fill this. We are once again a
complete FCEC Board. Thanks to those that served, and
welcome to Diana and Hannah!
The FCEC Board had made a
connection with
Hannah Ehrli
when she was selected as Florida’s 2010 ESE TOY. We
obviously liked what we saw, and evidently so did the
national CEC Clarissa Hug selection committee. Hannah was
FCEC’s nominee for the 2012 Award, and I am PROUD to tell
you that she has been
selected as the 2012
winner!
It is truly amazing that Florida
can be the state with the Clarissa Hug winner 2 years
in a row. I am very proud of Hannah, Don DeVito
(2011 CH Winner), Gayle Zavala, Carol Dinsdale and any
other past winners of the Clarissa Hug award from Florida.
There are some very special
people to recognize in connection with the 2011 FCEC
Annual State Conference. I will start with
Henry Schmitges (president)
and his Jacksonville FCEC Chapter, supported by
Alexandra Foust (president)
and her North Florida University Student Chapter, and
Judy Glendenning (FCEC
Board Conference Coordinator) and her FDLRS friends
assisting in their Oh! So Professional Manner! They were a
strong team to come together to make the event spectacular.
Next I recognize Dr. Kimberly
Pawling (FCEC 2011-12
President Elect) as the most amazing Program Chair. The
selection and organization of these fine sessions was all
due to her work. Thank you, Kim! I must also recognize
Dr.
Janet Raney and her FCEC Awards Committee,
working hard to assure us of quality nominees for the Rookie
Teacher of the Year and ESE Teacher of the Year, the Landis
Stetler Award, and the Ken Campbell Grant Award. CASE, along
with Diane Johnson’s
(FCEC Board Advisor) assistance, did their part to recognize
Landis Stetler Scholarship 2 winners. Finally, I must say it
was my honor to present a plaque to 6 presidents in
recognition of their chapter efforts to earn the President’s
Award. Thank you to each and everyone one of the rest of you
for presenting, donating time and money and silent auction
items, being vendors, sponsoring, and attending!

UCF Orlando as well. Details of the DLD Conference can
